What is an X-ray?
'X-rays are normally used for the first line of investigation. They best show bones but we can also
see other parts of the body like the intestines and blood vessels, these two will need what we call
an x-ray dye to make them more visible on x-rays.'
What can a patient expect?
'When a patient arrives for a routine x-ray, the patient will be registered, put on the system and then
one of us will be notified about the patient. We will then take the patient through for their x-ray.
Some x-rays will need a patient to change into a hospital gown and some will not. The process itself,
once the patient is in the room, can take anything from less than 2 minutes and for more
specialised x-rays it can take an hour.'
